In Case of Emergency, Aim For The Head

Paxton Williams had ceased to be. Mondrud had taken his place, and he was up to his knees in bodies. Mondrud (the warrior formerly known as Paxton Williams) and his group had started out strong, as they had spent hours on the strategy of their moves before initiating an attack. His ears were alive with the soundtrack of this world, the sounds of metal meeting metal while spells flew overhead amongst battle cries and death rattles. Morndrud was facing off with a particularly nasty level 30 mage. He was chivalrously protecting his girlfriend, Holyora Goblinsfoe, as she attempted to heal some of their fallen brethren with restorative elixirs. And then, over the din of bodies colliding, Morndrud heard his mother scream. # Paxton ripped his headphones from his ears and slid them across his desk. He let his chair wheel across the room away from him to clatter into the wall as he shoved himself to his feet. He ran down the hall and threw open his parents' bedroom doors in time to see his mother's bare back disappear beneath a dress. "Mom, are you okay?" Paxton had never heard his mother scream before. It terrified him in a way no game or movie scream ever had, even without the visual to accompany it. That was a sound he never wanted to hear again. His heart pounded erratically against his chest as he anxiously awaited a reply. She turned towards him, hair dripping wet, eyes panicked. "Pack a bag. Now! Be quick, Paxton!" Her left eye was swelling shut. "Mom! Who did this to you?! Where's dad? Is he okay?" "Paxton! Now! Hurry, please, hurry!" His mother's panic heightened Paxton's and he ran from the room obediently. Danger snaked through the house and hissed in his ears, encouraging him to hurry, flee, and escape.
